Anatomy of the benchmark:
The benchmark data is aggregated from over 12,000 respondents, composed of over 1,200 teams from over 60 companies. The median size of respondents per team was 7.
The median number of teams each company rolled out the Team Effectiveness survey to was four, with a maximum of 300 teams in one organization.
There is a wide range of industries represented:
- Information technology and services
- Management consulting
- Consumer services
- Legal services
- Online media
- Apparel and fashion
- Financial services
- 84% average response rate across all companies
- Bottom quartile (25th percentile) was 78% participation
- Top quartile (75th percentile) was 100% participation (this means that more than 1/4 teams get 100%)

Insight: Teams do particularly well at providing a supportive climate and demonstrating openness to new ideas and towards each other. However, it is common for teams to struggle to run effective team processes including dispute resolution and effective team meetings.

Insight: Teams that run effective meetings and discussions, regularly check in on progress towards goals, and communicate openly and honestly are top drivers of overall perception of team effectiveness.
