Set up Employee Data Integration via Secure File Transfer Protocol (SFTP)

Advantages of Employee Data Integration

If you are using Culture Amp platform regularly, for example for pulsing surveys, continuous feedback or onboarding & exit, it’s important to always have clean and up-to-date employee data.

If you have been running regular manual uploads to achieve this, we have a solution that could save you time. We offer native integrations with BambooHR, Namely, Workday and SAP SuccessFactors.

If you use any other system as your employee data source, you can automate the import to Culture Amp with the Employee Data Integration via the Secure File Transfer Protocol (SFTP). We support a secure, one-way connection that imports data files from either a third party SFTP client, or from HRIS tools that support SFTP.


Checking feasibility for your HRIS

There are just two things to confirm to be sure that you can use Employee Data Integration for automatically updating your employee data at Culture Amp:

  1. Setting up the SFTP connection will require the assistance of an appropriate IT support person or another contact familiar with SFTP. 
  2. Confirm that your HRIS supports the creation of files that fit these data standards & requirements. Organisations using the following HRIS have already successfully set up an integration via SFTP: ADP, UltiPro, SAP SuccessFactors, Oracle PeopleSoft, Cornerstone, HiBob, Ceridian, Zenefits.

Setting up Employee Data Integration

  1. Navigate to Account Administration
  2. Click on Integrations
  3. Click on Employee Data Integration button
  4. Fill out the 'connection details' form.  You may need the help of your company's IT person to do this. Use the technical article here for guidance.
  5. Click Save Configuration
  6. Once your connection is set up, you'll need to prepare a CSV/XLSX file of your employees for upload to your Culture Amp account (unless you are using the SFTP functionality of your HRIS). There's more information about how to set up your files here

Culture Amp will process the files using our partial import process. Once files are successfully imported via SFTP, you’ll see added/updated employee details in the Users page of your account. The nominated Account Administrator will receive an email if there's any problems with the file import.



Investigating and resolving any data issues

  1. Navigate to Account Administration
  2. Navigate to Import History and review errors in the last sync
  3. Correct the data in your internal employee data management system

Employee Data Integration checks for new files at SFTP client end every 10 mins and will process any updates when new files are found.
